number : respond to both float and int messages
anything : the Max catch-all method for messages of any name not otherwise defined
dblclick : called when a user double-clicks on your object
dspsetup : called when the Max audio signal graph is being compiled (i.e. when a user turns on the DSP for a patcher). Important: while for most messages the important name is the symbol you pass as the second argument (in this case “dspsetup”), in this case you must also ensure that the C++ identifier used to name the message is also dspsetup as in this example:
message<> dspsetup { this, "dspsetup",
MIN_FUNCTION {
m_one_over_samplerate = 1.0 / samplerate();
return {};
}
};
This message will be passed two arguments: the samplerate (of type number) and the vector size (of type int).
notify : receive notifications from Max or other objects (e.g. from a buffer~ object to which you hold a reference)
setup : a special method called when your instance is being instantiatedmaxclass_setup : a special method called when your class has been registered with Maxjitclass_setup : for jitter classes (e.g. matrix_operators) a special method that is called when the jitter class has been registered
